"My main drive for applying makeup was always confidence. Not necessarily my confidence, but the confidence I saw in my clients, in the individuals I did makeup on. Hence, I wanted to allude to groups and minorities which often express issues with feeling secure in their makeup and appearance due to visual constraints"- Clara Samuel, Founder

Development and Inspiration from Founder

My name is Clara Samuel, and I work as a freelance makeup artist in New York alongside completing my BBA bachelors at Parsons, The New School. I started bridal makeup at 16 and continued with makeup artistry projects since then, shifting from editorial to expressive. I have now worked runway makeup for fashion week and done makeup for photoshoots in New York alongside creatives.

My main drive for applying makeup was always confidence. Not necessarily my confidence, but the confidence I saw in my clients, in the individuals I did makeup on. Hence, I wanted to allude to groups and minorities which often express issues with feeling secure in their makeup and appearance due to visual constraints. Hence, I looked to aid the visually impaired, to guide them through the use of makeup products and techniques with clear resources and guides whilst  raising awareness for disability inclusivity.

As a makeup artist, the most important element to me is color- so what about colorblind individuals, who are not able to understand color? What about creating a makeup brand that would guide them through understanding color undertones and recieve guidance? And what if we give out the option to just take a quiz on their “type” and have us suggest products that will work for them?

My personal drive is to continue to spread awareness on utilising QR code technologies and taking advantage of increased phone access to start bringing resources to the individuals who need them most. This includes designing packaging which incorporates braille to make a revolutionising change in the makeup industry in terms of disability inclusivity. At the same time, simplicity in naming products is a priority, allowing the customer to train muscle memory over time whilst using our products.

Spreading Resources

Whilst our value proposition is distinct to Clarity Cosmetics, we hope to expand our use of technologies and strategies onto existing makeup brands, to emphasize the importance of alluding to the colorblind and visually impaired through shared resources and additional visual and auditory guides.
